Happy Chinese Lantern Festival
Happy Chinese Lantern Festival from all of us at AMCCU!
The Chinese Lantern Festival is a traditional celebration on the full moon of the 15th day of the first month in the Chinese lunisolar calendar. It marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations and has been observed since the Western Han Dynasty (206 BCE to 25 CE). Children carry paper lanterns and solve riddles on them at night.
Eating tangyuan or yanxiao is a tradition during the festival, symbolizing family togetherness, happiness and luck for the New Year. There are various types of lanterns, including image lanterns that imitate objects and activity lanterns that express the national spirit of loyalty, respect for parents and elders and justice.
